Gay Black Boys Don't Get Picked For Romeo

...is not the title of the book. The title is Blackbird and it is, hands down, one of my favorite coming-out stories ever. Partially because it's got a little sex, a little drugs, a little psychic-interest, a little religious fanaticism, and a whole lot of heart. Personally, I found it to be a little too short (I really didn't want the story to end), but it is beautiful. Stunningly beautiful. It actually made me cry. Plus, the main character is just so lovable, and not because he's sickeningly sweet. Because he feels real. It's a bit dated but still brilliant.

Anyone who loves stories about gay men or just loves a good story about growing up will adore this book.
